Malcesine is located on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, directly at the foot of Monte Baldo. Its extremely picturesque townscape is dominated by a massive Scaliger Castle, which stands on a rocky outcrop by the shore and offers a breathtaking view of the lake.
The medieval town centre, with its small squares, arched passages and cobbled streets, has retained much of its original charm and exudes the atmosphere of a bygone era.
To the south, the beautiful lakefront promenade begins, leading to the lush Val di Sogno peninsula and passing several scenic bathing areas along the way. To the north of the town there is also a beach, although bathers share it with surfers and sailors.
A cable car runs from Malcesine to Tratto Spino, a peak of Monte Baldo at 1,760 metres. During the ride you can enjoy spectacular views, and from the summit you are rewarded with a stunning panorama of the lake nestled between the surrounding mountain ranges.
